Abstract

As Digital Humanities has grown as a fi eld, it has been accompanied by the creation and expansion in variety of DH training. While this pedagogy has taken many forms—from online courses, blog posts, and discussion forums, through to the incorporation of DH in postgraduate courses—intensive DH training lasting at least a week has become a staple for passing on the skills and methodologies used in the fi eld. This chapter looks at these intensive DH training events using the Digital Humanities at Oxford Summer School (DHOxSS) as an example, with some comparisons to the European Summer University in Digital Humanities: “Culture and Technology” (ESUDH) at University of Leipzig and the Digital Humanities Summer Institute (DHSI) at University of Victoria, two similar DH training activities. These comparisons will not only detail the history and development of this type of training event within academic institutions but also serve to provide real-world examples of how the administration, finance, and timetabling of these events can be structured.
