Abstract

In this paper, the particle image velocimetry (PIV) and the embedded inertial navigation techniques were used to measure the particle movement of granular flow in the chute. And the basal layer, core layer, and surface layer of the system were recognized more accurately and quantitatively giving the thickness of each region, where the effects of particle angular velocity and rolling contribution rate were fully considered. The results show that the main movement mode of the particles in the basal layer is rolling movement, and the proportion occupied by rolling increases with the increase of the inclination angle; the main movement mode of the core layer and surface layer particles is sliding movement, and the proportion occupied by the sliding increases with the increase of the inclination angle; the angular velocity of the basal layer particles is the largest, and the translational velocity of the surface layer particles is the largest.
