In May 2019, Jamie Driscoll, a left-wing father of two and former martial arts instructor, became the first ever Mayor of the North of Tyne – a region that covers 2,000 square miles representing 880,000 people in the North East of England. Overnight, this little known activist who had never been in a position of power before, became the most prominent ‘Corbynista’ in an elected political office anywhere in the country. With unique access to Driscoll and his team, this observational documentary tells the story of Mayor Jamie Driscoll’s first year as a ‘socialist in power’, a year that happened to be one of the most turbulent in post-War British politics.
