Abstract

This chapter covers the synthesis, structures and reactivity of actinide metal carbene complexes, which feature formal An=C double bonds, since the first examples of such complexes were reported in 1981. In all examples under ‘‘conventional’’ organometallic synthetic conditions, the carbene ligands are mono- or di-anionic, and the An=C bond is stabilized by at least one P(V), P(III) or As(V) substituent. However, in inert-gas matrices or in endohedral fullerenes, unstabilized An=CR2 (R: H, alkyl), and An=C=An, have been reported.
