Abstract

This comment on the exchange between Stefan Muller-Doohm/Roman Yos and Fabian Freyenhagen aims to put the debate in the context of the broader question of the relative merits of earlier and later critical theory. I agree with Muller-Doohm and Yos in suggesting that the approaches of Horkheimer and Adorno on the one hand, and Habermas on the other, to the question of Begrundung are less far apart than Freyenhagen claims
