In this compilation of mostly traditional English art song, performed by graduates of King's College Choir who are now all professional singers, Zazzo and collaborative pianist Simon Lepper have chosen to perform the world premiere of Iain Bell's 'Come away Death' (part of a song cycle These motley fools Zazzo commissioned from Bell) as well as the first recordings by countertenor of selections from Jonathan Dove's cycle for mezzo soprano of Vikram Seth texts, All you who sleep tonight . 'Countertenor Lawrence Zazzo alone offers songs outside that cosy English style: he well conveys the irony of 'God's Love' in Jonathan Dove's setting of Vikram Seth; and the tart and expressive angularity of Iain Bell's 'Come away, Death' is a relief after so much salted caramel sweetness.'
