Newcastle University in Singapore has been running a postgraduate taught programme of MSc in Marine Technology (International), designed specifically for the marine industry in Singapore, for almost fifteen years. The course started with delivery as a combination mode of distance learning, flying faculty, intensive school, pre- and post-school assignments, etc. The curriculum has all its taught modules also delivered as CPD for industry personnel geared to their specific needs. The first author has been involved with this programme right from its inception and then in its academic and operational roles for almost ten years. A detailed feedback exercise conducted from both past and existing students regarding specific elements of the programme has been carried out. Based on that feedback, changes have been introduced over the years for various reasons, which will be outlined, explaining their impacts. The course which has 180 credits has unique features for industry executives like engineers, managers, etc. for enhancing their interests in educational and professional development. The striking feature of the programme is its dissertation project, based on a live problem in the workplace. One of the challenges has been to bring both sides of the marine industry in Singapore and the region, i.e. both ship and offshore technology together in the modular syllabus. It was an exciting journey for this programme to evolve to provide better prospects for marine industry personnel. The authors are now considering further changes which would provide ample opportunity for the students to pursue this course in a more manageable and progressive way.
