Notes: I am the most senior author in this study which was entirely my idea. This study has already led to a change in practice with colorectal nurse specialists providing flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy services to diagnose colorectal disease. This service was originally provided only by doctors but half of the service is now delivered by nurses. Colorectal Disease is the official journal of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland, The European Society of Coloproctology and The Spanish Society of Coloproctology.
