Newcastle University in Singapore (NUiS) is focused on expanding knowledge and addressing societal needs through collaborative research. NUiS aims to equip its colleagues with research skills and facilities to contribute at the highest levels, and to recognize their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Attracting funds to support research activities is important, including for publication in open access journals, participating in conferences, developing lab facilities, and recruiting talented post-graduate candidates. The Singapore National Research Foundation (NRF) manages research funding, and understanding the NRF position in the funding document known as RIE2025 Plan is important. The RIE2025 Plan targets specific areas of research through three strategic focus areas, and eligibility criteria play a key role in the successful award of government research funds. The document also presents a catalogue-approach linking colleagues' expertise with domain areas and discusses the prospects and challenges in the global context.
