Abstract

© 2023, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.Sacred practices connected to the celebration of Saint George take place on the Island of Prinkipos (Büyükada), the largest of the so-called Princes’ Islands in the Sea Marmaras and is included in the urban context of Istanbul. A close examination of the pilgrimage to the monastery of St. George Koudounas on the day of Saint George’s commemoration (23rd April) provides insights into its importance as a liminal place in topography and a place that reflects the negotiation with important urban geopolitical boundaries.
