Abstract

The Single Ended Primary Inductor Converter (SEPIC) enables Buck-Boost functionality without inverting the output as in the standard topology. This paper introduces an integrated boost SEPIC topology; analyses the basic operation and gain function in Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM) and compares the resultant efficiency in hardware in comparison to alternative cascaded converter options. As the load consumption affects the gain function in DCM, a dual output converter results in both loads impacting the gain, leading to more complex gain functions. In this paper, the theoretical, simulated, and real hardware gain functions are plotted against duty cycle for varying load resistances.
