Abstract

This project sought to understand better the motivations and expectations of students engaging in higher education post-pandemic. Adopting a visual research approach, data in the form of sketches (n=120) was collected from incoming first year students as to their representation of higher education, their current self-image and desired outcome of completion. Our research questioned 1. Whether representations presented by students arriving post pandemic indicted a significant alteration of expected experience to what has been seen as conventional university education; 2. To gain insight into role that students assigned to themselves as learners within higher education in their sketches; 3. The transformation of self that students expected to experience as a result of engaging in higher education.
