Ben Jonson was with Shakespeare and Marlowe one of three principal playwrights of his age. He was also one of its most original and influential poets. Known best for his country house poem, 'To Penshurst', and his moving elegy, 'On My First Son', his work inspired the whole generation of seventeenth-century poets who called themselves the 'Sons of Ben'. This edition brings together his three substantial collections of verse, 'Epigrams', The Forest, and Underwood, with his uncollected verse and songs from plays and masques into a single volume. It gives readers a comprehensive view of his wide achievements in poetry in a fully annotated edition using modernised spelling and punctuation.
