This session combines three reflections on developing knowledge exchange strategy with speakers from York, Sheffield and Newcastle Universities.James Hastie shares his experience of building a team and strategy to grow industry income. Joining the University of York from industry, James will consider:· cultural differences between university and industry settings, and how best to align expectations· showcase a delivery-oriented model of business development· what senior university leaders need to be able to create positive relationships with industrySaq Rasul reflects on a four-year programme to create a dedicated Partnerships and Knowledge Exchange Service (PKES). The new service at the University of Sheffield has brought together, expanded and further-professionalised KE support and practice. Saq will explore:· engaging colleagues and senior leadership in the process· aligning PKES with university strategy and sub-strategies within faculties and units· use of the university's change management methodology - forming PKES was the first project to use it· the benefits realised and challenges found during the processTom Bramald shares findings from an executive MBA project. By interviewing knowledge exchange leaders at six other universities, Tom developed a set of recommendations for Newcastle University's KE strategy. He will discuss the findings that relate to:· university-owned arm's-length companies for commercialisation activity· the relationship between universities and their frequent role in anchoring innovation districts· growing opportunities for the student body in knowledge exchange.
