This chapter charts the history of the World Archaeological Congress (WAC) from its creation in the mid 1980s over the academic and cultural boycott of South Africa and its development into the worlds only truely democratic and representative archaeological organisation. It questions the continuing role of WAC and suggests why the organisation has a critical role to play in the future of the discipline.
