In this paper, Necio Turra Neto reflects upon some of the key concepts, ideas, and approaches to youth geographies following a year long visit to the UK to engage with studies about youth and place in Anglo-American Geography. In this interview with Peter Hopkins, he reflects on some of the similarities and differences between youth geographies in Brazil compared to Anglo-American scholarship. Studies of the relationship between youth and place is a relatively marginal concern in both contexts with a small community of scholars havig this as their primary focus. In research in Brazil, there is more a focus on the concepts of territory and territorialisation, alongside a strong tendency to see young people through a lens of hope. In contrast, in the UK feminist geographies have had a clearer influence as had work seeking to make policy interventions about young people’s lives.
