Abstract

© 2025 IEEE.This paper presents the development of an IoT EDGE-cloud communication framework using the MQTT messaging protocol, designed to serve as the foundation for a future smart energy management system. A bidirectional communication channel is implemented between an IoT EDGE device and the cloud to ensure continuous data transfer. The paper details the technical challenges encountered during development and the corresponding solutions, along with the potential areas for future work. The system is primarily coded in Python, leveraging tools such as Command Prompt and Visual Studio Code. Additionally, the implementation integrates various cloud services, including AWS IoT Core, Lambda, DynamoDB, Timestream, EC2, and CloudWatch, which are crucial to the development and operational performance of communication channel. The proposed solution is applicable in real-world scenarios, paving the way for advancements in energy technology such as peer-to-peer energy trading.
