This chapters opens by establishing the typical profile of freelance translators based on existing surveys. It then moves on to discuss freelance translators’ clients and the nature of the work that they typically carry out. As part of this, this chapter explores the changing nature of this work as a result of automation, as well as the different roles freelancer translators may need to take on in order to deliver their projects successfully. Finally, this chapter looks at some of the new trends in the industry that may well continue to (re)shape the future of work for freelance translators.
