The SIS-based urban spatial computing system (USCS) for multi-field urban applications is a critical platform for collecting and analyzing various heterogeneous big data in the city. However, the sources of city-related data are diverse and complex, making it hard to achieve comprehensive data integration and management in USCS. Simultaneously, the technological architecture of USCS is also evolving, requiring a holistic review of USCS-related theory and technology. This paper reviewed multiple aspects related to USCS based on existing findings, and the main points observed are as follows: (a) various data types along with their sources and acquisition methods; (b) a comparative analysis of multiple data models and database systems; (c) an elaboration of USCS application services and frontier technologies driving USCS evolution; d) discussion of typical USCS, accompanied by the presentation of a USCS architectural design proposal for reference. The review provides relevant researchers with a quick and comprehensive perspective on USCS and promotes their research in some frontier directions.
