Between Order and Randomness’ examines ACA, situated in Allenheads in the Pennines – the highest village in England‘, as a locus of meeting and connection. It looks briefly at network theory (ie: that a highly ordered network (eg the pattern on graph paper) has, on average, a big number of connections to get from one point to another; whereas in a random network this ‘path length’ is small, and between these lie ‘small world networks’ as exemplified in Milgram’s ‘Six Degrees of Separation’) and maps events from the ACA programme onto this. It particularly looks at the value of social networks and social interaction within contemporary visual art.
