This paper proposes an extension of integration to theentire built environment. It is motivated by the need toappropriately respond to changes that impinge on andare caused by human civilization. An understanding ofthe consequences of change is crucial in the creation andmanagement of a sustainable and resilient built environment,but no integrated model for this purpose exists. Aproposal for an integrated model of the built environment,which draws from previous research on integration,is therefore presented. The potential benefits ofthis model and future research into its development andimplementation are also outlined.
