Abstract

This collection comprises a spreadsheet cataloguing over 300 Roman iron linchpin examples from Roman Britain, and includes spatial data, site type, chronology (where possible) and dimensions. The dataset was created by Professor James Gerrard between November 2018 and November 2025. This dataset supports an article by James Gerrard and Andrew Muckle published in Itinera that uses these linchpins as a proxy for understanding vehicle use in Roman Britain.
