The Newcastle University research output collection, currently available on ePrints, will shortly be moving to a new open repository platform, Figshare. To prepare for the data migration we have paused adding new content to ePrints, and will resume once the new repository is launched. During this time you will continue to have access to ePrints (but no new content will appear). We will share updates here when available.

Abstract

The Comfrey Almanac is an edited collection produced in collaboration between cultural geographer, Jein (NU) and The Comfrey Project, a Gateshead charity supporting refugees and people seeking asylum. The volume curates community-authored writing, recipes, artworks and seasonal knowledge, as well as commissioned contributions from artists and designers, to contribute to knowledge on migration, urban nature, community food collectives and displaced belonging. Organised through the almanac form, the book challenges monocultural perspectives on land, producing knowledge through its structure, and using seasonality and collective form to foreground everyday ecological and social relations. An editorial essay, Routes and Roots, by Jein provides the book's historical and analytical frame, situating the collection in relation to local migration histories and wider debates in cultural geography and the environmental humanities.
