Abstract

This project explored, developed and produced complex and intriguing relationships between fiction and contemporary art. INFALLIBLE, In Search of the Real George Eliot was a touring exhibition and website. Funded by the Arts Council of England, the AHRB, and the University of Newcastle AHRF small grants, the project initiated 5 visual art comissions and showed existing work by 20 contemporary artists as well as historic works from the collections of the Hatton and Huddersfield galleries. The exhibitions, which evolved in response to each context, had an audience of 11,964 over a period of 163 days and were featured in the Guardian Guide. This interdisciplinary project produced new forms of knowledge and productive collaborations in the field of Fine Art.
