Abstract

In collaboration with GHK, a CURDS team - led by John Tomaney and Stuart Dawley - undertook the the creation of 8 comparative case studies of regional economic development from around the world. Drawing on both organisations' international networks and expertise, regional examples of economic step change facilitated by particular programme interventions were developed. Initial development of case studies involved regional benchmarking, selection of cases ('regional fit') and international peer review of common themes. Through a high level workshop process, cases were scrutinised and applied to the North East of England to create a set of 'doable' strategic recommendations, including on how to embed lessons within regional stakeholders.
