Cynic Influence upon First-century Judaism and Early Christianity?

Abstract

This paper provides a critical survey of the highly controversial 'Cynic model' of early Christianity from the point of view of an expert on the Classical side. It concludes that there was some Cynic influence upon Jesus and that this is important for our understanding of his culture and to some extent of his thought.
