UP is a physically-based model designed to simulate environmental impacts at a variety of scales ranging from an individual catchment to the continental scale. It is unique in its treatment of scaling hydrological processes because it uses only physically-based models applied at the scale at which they are valid. The model provides an important insight into large river basin hydrology and it will prove to be a valuable aid to water resource managements particularly under conditions of changing climate and land use change.
