Abstract

Experiments have been carried out to study the development of regime channel morphology and the overbank deposition of sediment for a straight and meandering mobile bed channel in fixed flood plains for a range of flow conditions. Preliminary results are presented for the straight channel work for the bankfull flow section and the effects of overbank flows on the channel top width, and include friction and sediment transport data. The results suggest reasonable theoretical agreement with the friction data but the sediment transport rate is underestimated. An example of measurements made to assess the rate of movement of suspended sediment to the flood plain is also described.
