Lineshapes of consecutive transitions in ytterbium

Abstract

The argon broadened profiles of two ytterbium lines which form a stepwise excitation route 61S0-63P1-73S1 are reported. The red and blue far wing features are discussed and qualitative information on the argon-ytterbium potentials are obtained. It is shown that the system is suitable for a two-step redistribution experiment.
