Applications of RFID in road tolling, road-use pricing and vehicle access control were studied. The devices that adhere to the new European standard on dedicated road to vehicle communications were also discussed. The development of high performance vehicle/roadside communications systems for the facilitation of electronic payments has moved very slowly. The established of a European standard for many aspects of the short range communications link and the application data has opened up the market, not just in Europe, but worldwide.
