Open Access padlockePrints

The Newcastle University research output collection, currently available on ePrints, will shortly be moving to a new open repository platform, Figshare. To prepare for the data migration we have paused adding new content to ePrints, and will resume once the new repository is launched. During this time you will continue to have access to ePrints (but no new content will appear). We will share updates here when available.

Abstract

A novel phase separation on glancing incidence ion beam irradiated CaF2(111) surfaces was documented. This phase separation was attributed to F- and F-center terminated mesoscopic domains upon which 2 ML high nanometer-scale calcium islands are superimposed. The 2% lattice mismatch between calcium and CaF2 led to the formation of stress domains leading to a characteristic island size and separation.
