Abstract

A numerical simulation has been undertaken to model a layer of sand overlaying a layer of geosynthetic reinforcement and super soft clay. Details of the model and the modelling procedures are described and the influence of the bending stiffness (flexural rigidity) of the reinforcement on the bearing capacity of super soft clay is discussed. Factors affecting the reinforcement mechanisms of geosynthetic reinforcement of super soft clay are considered.
