Abstract

Asynchronous communication mechanisms permit the implementation of data interfaces between heterogeneously timed (hets) entities at various hardware levels. Het-based systems provide for flexible interfaces between elements with self-motivated and reactive timing. This flexibility could facilitate large-scale integration without resorting to higher-level manipulations of time through techniques such as those found in traditional networks.
