Abstract

When necrotic or foreign material is present in a wound, sharp or surgical debridement can reduce the risk of infection and sepsis and aid wound healing. In this article the author considers the various methods of debridement and concludes that sharp debridement should be considered as the 'gold standard'. copyright © 1992-Feb 2001 by SMTL.
