Abstract

The changes to the mechanical properties of woven glass laminates with polyester, vinyl esters and phenolic resins during fire exposure are discussed. Unstressed laminates are exposed to a constant one sided heat flux and the residual post-fire strength at room temperature are observed. The modes of loading involving compressive stress are more adversely affected by fire exposures. The analysis shows that integrity times in fire are short and composite structures are more prone to local compressive failure.
