Abstract

The significance of process intensification and miniaturization (PIM) for sustainable development was discussed. A flow induced phase inversion (FIPI) phenomenon was applied to intensify particle formation processes. In an isothermal FIPI granulation, a concentrated suspension powder in liquid was caused to crumble to the further addition of the powder. The location of crumbling was found to depend on the effectiveness of the heat transfer, temperature of the polymer melt from the extruder, polymer concentration, the clearance between the rotor and stator.
