Abstract

The prediction of extreme mooring forces of moored floating offshore platforms due to long-term met-ocean database can be carried out using a response-based method. As the extreme mooring force for a symmetric turret-moored FPSO is related to the extreme platform excursion, the response-based method can be applied to obtain the extreme platform excursion in the first place and then the extreme mooring force can be determined from the predicted excursion. One can also predict the extreme mooring force by applying the response-based method. This can be done by generating the database of mooring force relevant to the database of met-ocean parameters. In this paper these two approaches of the response-based method are applied to a turret-moored FPSO and the results are compared with each other.
