This paper presents a solution to mitigate the cochannel interference in the uplink of DS/CDMA systems over a multipath AWGN channel. A combination of adaptive array and interference cancellation methods is used to recover a weak signal sharing the same spatial domain as a strong interfering signal. Simulation results show that the proposed structure outperforms the conventional 2D Rake receiver by 8 dB at 10/sup -3/ BER under severe near-far situation. The ability of the spatial canceller to eliminate the strong interferers is demonstrated. (5 References).
