Abstract

To obtain polymorphic molecular markers for population genetics and conservation studies in Bonelli's eagle populations, we screened a partial genomic library enriched for microsatellites with di- and tri-nucleotide motifs [(GT) (CT) (AAC) and (GCC)]. A total of 15 polymorphic markers were obtained. The number of alleles ranged from two to eight. These markers will be very useful for paternity tests and population structure studies as well as for evaluating the outcome of conservation programs. © 2005 Blackwell Publishing Ltd.
