Abstract

The objective of this paper is to demonstrate the effect of geometric non-linearity on the integrated thickness and shape optimisation of geometrically nonlinear shell structures. Numerous papers have published research on either shape or thickness optimisation of shell structures (see section 2,5). However "optimal" solutions obtained from shape or thickness optimisation process may not be truly optimum since thickness can be altered to achieve a better objective function value in shape optimisation and conversely for thickness optimisation.5.
