The Intelligent Cities “INTELCITIES” Project’s e-City Platform uses Enterprise Architecture to provide a ‘one stop’ information service covering a wide range of Local Authority Services. In the Leicester demonstrator, the demand responsive signal control systems developed by the Transport Research Laboratory in the UK, nested within Urban Traffic and Management Control was used to identify incidents, create a ‘Strategy Generator’ and thus supply routeing information to Variable Message Signs. Journey times were estimated using the data from the demand responsive control system and verified by those measured by the Automatic Number Plate Recognition systems along three radial corridors. Driver response to incident information was observed by way of a congestion information system and a map displaying congestion and location against time. Ideas for performance indicators to deliver local authority responsibilities identified in the Traffic Management Act were proposed. Finally, the ‘e-Mobility and Transport’ User Needs Survey focused attention on ‘real-time’ assessment and delivery of ‘journey time’ information to drivers via roadside Variable Message Signs.
