Abstract

From 1992-1995 the European Union supported a programme of research entitled "Interdisciplinary Basin Studies". One objective of the programme was to develop a better understanding of the compaction of fine-grained sediments. Some of the results of the research are presented in the subsequent four papers, which are introduced and summarised in this contribution. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
