Abstract

Knowledge on wave induced loads and motions of offshore structures is important for assessing motion and structural response analysis acting on those marine structures. And to obtain information on wave induced loads and motions of marine structures, hydrodynamic coefficients should be acquired by experimental or numerical works. Until now the study into hydrodynamic loading acting on marine structures has carried out generally on circular cross-section members while works on other cross-sections such as rectangular type members has been seldom performed. However we can find these shapes from many offshore structures with columns and pontoons in semi-submersibles and tension-leg platforms. This study describes how to determine hydrodynamic coefficients on rectangular type cross-section Members using optimisation technique. Mathematical approach and optimisation techniques are simultaneously used to derive the formulae for obtaining hydrodynamic coefficients, which will be and respectively. In the final stage the calculated examples on Seaways MPSS* are seen together with results using numerical method, commercial software, experimental data and formulae derived by optimisation technique. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ * Seaways Multi-Purpose Semi-Submersible Platform
