The Newcastle University research output collection, currently available on ePrints, will shortly be moving to a new open repository platform, Figshare. To prepare for the data migration we have paused adding new content to ePrints, and will resume once the new repository is launched. During this time you will continue to have access to ePrints (but no new content will appear). We will share updates here when available.

Abstract

The manuscript Zentralbibliothek Zurich Ms C 58 is one of the most quoted and least known manuscripts of German literature. Newly found fragments allow a more precise localisation in the scholarly culture of the late 12th century. This is discussed with regard to a Latin-German mixed text, the 'Versus de despectu sapientis' that incorporte oral gnomic poetry in learned extracts from Horace and Ovid.
