Abstract

Enhancing the student experience, and in particular student engagement, has become the primary focus of Higher Education in the UK as we move forward into the uncertain world of high student fees and a higher education market. This book seeks to uncover the multi-dimensional nature of student engagement and provide conceptual clarity about this rather elusive notion. The book begins with an exploration of the best ideas and evidence from around the world and from broader education that illuminate the concept. A set of contributions and case studies is then presented which demonstrate: Outcomes of current studies about "students engaging". Policies and practices across a range of levels from institutional to module, which are effective in "engaging students". The book draws from a range of contributors in a wide variety of roles in HE including current students, and offers readers a deep and critical insight into effective ways to enhance student engagement
