Abstract

As pressures on global food supplies increase intensification may seem to be the only option. But addressing future food needs might lie in low input farming. However, current breeds farmed in Europe have been developed for intensive systems. Could developing alternative, more robust breeds be more effective, alongside tailored management strategies and less veterinary intervention?
