The paper compares opportunities for ICT skill development, the use of computers for educational purposes, and pupil attitude towards computers at home and at school. It also looks at other characteristics of pupils who differ in attitude towards using the computer as a tool for learning. On the basis of questionnaire data collected in 1999, it seems that home use of ICT often provides more and better opportunities for learning than use in school. Strategies for minimising the effects of the digital divide in primary education are discussed.
