In order to capture the potential renewable energy available in sea waves, several wave energy converters are being developed around the world. Many of these require electrical generators with long maintenance-free life spans located close to or under the water surface. This paper discusses some of the advantages, challenges, and potential solutions, of running electrical generators fully flooded in sea water.
