Notes: This research monograph makes a major contribution to our understanding of classroom discourse. It offers a variable approach to analyzing classroom discourse and proposes a framework (SETT: Self Evaluation of Teacher Talk) which enables teachers to understand classroom interaction in their own classes. The framework has been extended to a range of educational contexts and is now being used on second language teacher education programmes around the world.
