Evidence on pitch from the Early English Organ Project, interpreted in conjunction with the chronology of the earliest Elizabethan church music, disproves any fundamental change of pitch-standard between pre-and post-Reformation performing practices in England. This in turn militates against commonly received notions of vocal production which are based upon the premiss that Elizabethan vocal scoring represented a deciswive break from earlier practice.
